Evaluation

My favorite topic was the bias topics because as you can tell most of my effort went into that one. I hated the music topic, because "im somwhat lazy and didn't want to go and find a song.I started off with effort and it just fell apart as we got into spring,  I didn't learn much from blogging. I did pick things up for use in class and on stories we talked about. I will leave my blog here for the remainder of eternity never to touch it again. Its really up to them the sophomore class is super lazy and wouldn't do it.

1920s song

Duke Ellington- It don't Mean a thing.

What good is melody?
What good is music?
If it ain't possessing something sweet

It ain't the melody
It ain't the music
There's something else that makes this song complete
(Bo dolled dolled do da...)

It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing
(do Do a Do ap...
Well it don't mean a thing all you got to do is sing

It makes no difference if it's sweet or hot
Just give that rhythm ev-ry-thing you got YES

It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing

It don't mean a thing
It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing boy

(Ba ba doo dah doo…)

I said it don't mean a thing and all you got to do is sing

(La la la…)

Now it makes no difference if it's sweet or hot
Just give that rhythm ev-ry-thing you got OHH
It don't mean a thing boy, if it ain't got-a-that-a-swinga

Doo Wap

Show me

THis is a classic 1920s song that embodies the Gatsby spirit of free living and carelessness.

Stephen Crane Poem

Stephen Crane - "And the sins of the fathers shall be"

"And the sins of the fathers shall be
visited upon the heads of the children,
even unto the third and fourth
generation of them that hate me."

Well, then I hate thee, unrighteous picture;
Wicked image, I hate thee;
So, strike with thy vengeance
The heads of those little men
Who come blindly.
It will be a brave thing.

This is quite an emotional poem from Stephen Crane. In my opinion this poem speaks about the sins of past generations and how the subsequent generations must atone for those sins, and are extremely bitter about it

Mark twain Quote

'A round man cannot be expected to fit in a square hole right away. He must have time to modify his shape"

I just think this is a funny quote that can be taken a couple different ways. I think its talking about different people and how then change over time. Change cannot be forced.

Civil Rights

http://www.gpc.edu/~heritage/MorenikaSmith.htm

In this story a black woman tries to apply for workers comp for her husband after he is injured at work. When she is denied (on racial grounds) she doesnt know what to do. It took a sixteen year old white girl to help the woman get her husbands workers comp. The woman finds it rediculous that the government wont give a grown women what she deserves, but listens to a sixteen year old girl just because she is white.

Harlem Walk

After seeing the virtual tour I can tell that Bessie's dentist office was right in the middle of one of the most important periods of African american history. She could walk outside and see famous jazz musicians or walk down the avenue to speak with Washington or Du Bois. Its quite amazing that she had access to this huge movement in 1920s Harlem right outside her front door.
